Montreal Bach Festival 2005

As a testament to the city's unique appreciation of Baroque period music and its special sensitivity to virtuosic artistry, the Bach-Académie de Montréal will organize an annual music Festival featuring outstanding Montreal ensembles alongside international artists. This special event will also feature a symposium.

International music scholars and Bach experts will join us in Montreal to enlighten audiences of the theological background on J. S. Bach's work, on which most of his output is based. The Bach-Académie de Montréal is sure to satisfy a significant demand within the region for European culture and music.

• Welcome — Upon my arrival in Montréal a few years ago I was impressed by the cultural opportunities that the city has to offer. And yet as a musicologist from Germany, to my great surprise there was to date no institution in the whole of Canada dedicated to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. In an effort to change this situation the Bach-Académie de Montréal was founded.
